To the Editor:

The Big Beautiful Bill? It’s Big, and it’s a Bill alright — but it’s anything but Beautiful. If you value anything about our habitable planet, it’s downright Ugly. Central to this horrific piece of legislation is funding tax cuts for multimillionaires by cutting some of the most valuable pieces of the Inflation Reduction Act, that oddly named legislation that nonetheless provided crucial support to the much-needed Green Transition.

Environmental benefits of the IRA on the chopping block? EV tax credits — gone. Clean electricity investment and production tax credits — phased out by 2031. Tax credits for the production of wind turbine equipment — done by 2027. Tax credits for solar and battery production — phased out by 2031. Hoping for tax credits for making your home more energy efficient? Too bad, those will be gone by the end of the year.

Leaning into pollution and away from clean electricity and vehicles? Sounds like anything but Beautiful.
