To the Editor:
Regarding this Monday’s land vote, some of us have argued that we cannot build a new high school at B&S because we lack all the information necessary to make a fully informed decision.
I do appreciate the desire to gather as much information as possible. But I also believe that having absolutely every “i” dotted and “t” crossed is an utter impossibility here. Therefore, when still in doubt, I put my faith in those that know far more than I do. Accordingly, I place my entire trust in the Board of Education that has worked with unquestionable integrity on our behalf, and I trust CG Schmidt’s professional expertise and century’s worth of experience to provide a building and campus that will be the pride of our community.
General indecisiveness notwithstanding, I am certain of a few things. First, the School District, Board, and Administration have busted their tails since 2017 to provide the best for our students, teachers, parents, taxpayers, and community at large. Second, they have conducted countless informational meetings and listening sessions in order to be completely transparent and to fully engage the community during each step of this process.
And how have we responded to all their unfathomable hours of exceedingly difficult, selfless, and unpaid volunteer work? Since this past Thanksgiving:
● We have rejected — TWICE! — the Board’s expert recommendation to purchase a new land site.
● We have verbally harassed and threatened them to the point of forcing one member to resign for the sake of her mental health.
● And we even had gone so far as to file a LAWSUIT against the District and some Board members, submitting claims so obviously untrue, that, in my own opinion, could easily have justified a counter-suit by the District against the plaintiffs for libel.
FELLOW CITIZENS OF THE MONROE SCHOOL DISTRICT: WE HAVE SLAPPED THESE GOOD PEOPLE IN THE FACE LONG ENOUGH ALREADY. After six to seven years of tireless effort on our behalf, these outstanding individuals have helped us get down to just one yard shy of our community’s goal: to break ground for a new high school, on a NEW LAND SITE (per the referendum), that can last us almost to the cusp of the 22nd century.
Now it is our turn to reward their efforts and to nudge them past the goal line. VOTE YES TO B&S!
