To the Editor:
I can’t remember the first time I used a public library. I do recall sinking into literature in middle school and truly used great classics as a tool that got me some great grades; passing grades in high school.
Then, later on I had a life, a wife and a son.
When you have kids you start to live their life and the local library was and still is a hub of entertainment, interest, joy, movie rentals of all things, music and really great people.
In the hustle of life, I take having a library for granted, I must admit. That it will always be there I expect. It’s a building filled with books and especially challenged in this age of digital anything, but there’s just something about having a book in your hand. The smell of it, the delight of finding a leather bound book, the humble knowing that somebody else read this very book ... I smile.
Our own Monroe public library needs a little hand to spiff it up. It’s one of those projects where it makes it great for people you may not ever know or see but binds you together anyway. It’s called the “Let’s Do Something Extraordinary For Monroe” and they need some cash for renovations. I don’t have a bunch of money, but I have a few greens and if you love and appreciate your library, please give a little something.
