To the editor:

If you're as concerned as I am about the direction the state has taken in the last few years, you need to consider a great candidate for the 51st Assembly District Jeff Wright. He's the Assistant Superintendent for the Sauk Prairie Schools and has been active in economic development efforts there as well.

Jeff is all too aware that one-party rule in Wisconsin has been damaging to the state. Examples abound but here are two that are especially troublesome: The Republicans have made deep budget cuts to the University of Wisconsin system that are resulting in fewer course offerings and programs, larger classes and fewer staff. Jeff's opponent voted against restoring the one quarter of a billion-dollar cut to the UW.

And then there's the Republican defeat of a bill that would have allowed student loans to be refinanced at lower interest rates. This would give students a chance to do what everybody does when it comes to refinancing our home mortgages and car loans. Again, Jeff's opponent voted against this bill.

Rather than voting the party line as his opponent has done 95 percent of the time, Jeff Wright has pledged to listen to us and exercise what he hears from us. I ask you to vote for Jeff Wright, 51st Assembly, on Nov. 8.
