What's new in my neighborhood?

Food, drink and music: Congratulations and kudos to the Minhas family and staff for the successful opening of their new restaurant. The open house featured many gourmet items from their new chef, Troy Cox. Being a foodie, I was thrilled to try pheasant, roasted antipasto and many other tasty items. Of course, like most events in Green County, there were several kinds of cheese from the Decatur Cheese Factory. The Minhas family always hosts events that have style and good taste.

It's been a real boon to the downtown since Minhas attracts approximately 40,000 visitors a year to its location with tours and tastings. Minhas already employs around 100 people and the restaurant will add 20. I'm sure much of the increased traffic downtown is from all those visitors.

More food and drink: North Side Pub and Grill just recently renovated its space and opened on the North Side of the Square. They have kept the popular smoked pork/smoked brisket and added many new items. Laura Winters is always coming up with new and interesting ideas for food and drink.

Music and drink: A great addition to the south end of my block is the new brewery (nano not micro) called Bullquarian Brewhouse. They have had several musicians entertain and have attracted quite the crowds. Check out their Facebook page to see when the next music event will happen.

Art and drink: Check out Kathy King's new wall mural at Baumgartner's Cheese Store, just recently finished. She never ceases to amaze us with her ideas. And thanks to the owners for hiring her.

Art: We're getting close to opening an art gallery downtown at my 1114 17th Ave. location.
