Letter to the Editor: Voters are left out in the cold

To the editor:

How could a high-ranking Republican marry a high-ranking Democrat, particularly nowadays, when everybody virtually seemingly hates one another? The people involved are James Carville and Mary Matalin who wrote the book "All's Fair: In Love, War and Running for President." Even the people in both parties couldn't believe it was taking place. Nothing would stop them though because they respected each others' profession.

Wouldn't it be great again if we could get back to respecting one another again? Rather than what Republican President Donald Trump is doing? He gets on Twitter and blurts out comments that are totally not thought out at all, other than the fact it shows he has an uncontrollable temper. This aspect of his also shows up in his everyday life.

If you read the many books written about Donald before he became president, this explains why he was married more than once. In fact, Melania is his third wife. Of course, Donald is a billionaire much like Ross Perot was when he ran for president. The only physical difference is - Donald Trump is a tall man and Ross Perot was a short man who didn't become president but at times ran ahead of both Democrat and Republican candidates but was majorly defeated when the media wouldn't take his ads even though he could pay for them.

What would have happened though, if Ross Perot would have used Twitter the way President Trump does which probably wasn't even around then? Overall, I think Ross made more sense than Republican President Donald Trump has. Former Republican presidents, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, called President Trump a blowhard, which is a very serious charge, particularly when it is coming from former presidents to one who is now in office like President Trump, who is supposed to conduct business in this country and around the world.

The book "All's Fair" compared the 1992 presidential campaign which ended up Republican President George H.W. Bush versus Democrat Bill Clinton and Independent Ross Perot, which are all interesting comparisons of how the two political parties should work because we should have political parties that work together to get legislation passed. Something that we don't seem to have today.

I believe the main obstacle is that too many billionaires are contributing too much money to the campaigns which leaves 99 percent of the voters out in the cold.
