To the editor:

I would like to answer some of your questions about the Jefferson Township referendum on ATV road routes.

Will ATV/UTV's travel on all roads in the township? No, the ATV/UTV route is on a few select township roads, and we are only asking for a six-month trial so you can understand this route will not impact you in a negative way but a positive way.

Why do we ride from bar to bar? We stop at bars and/or restaurants for the camaraderie and support our sponsors, plus we are hungry and bars have really good food. We stop so we can visit with our friends, children and grandchildren and meet new friends and their families who are enjoying the same sport. I urge you to look at the Green County ATV Club map and see all the sponsors that support the trails and routes, as riders, we support them back.

Are ATV/UTV's noisy? No, as they have noise restrictions per Wisconsin law and are much quieter than many other vehicles on the road.

We are ordinary people, just like you, but we ride an ATV/UTV to have fun and socialize, so what do you do to socialize and how would you feel if someone wanted to stop you from doing the things you enjoy? Tourism is great for businesses and ATV/UTV riders spend a lot of money on food, cheese, fuel, motel rooms, camping, etc. and that helps the local economy plus the added sales tax. The out-of-state riders found they enjoy the small-town life so much, they come back to these same towns for local events. If these routes are so bad, why are they expanding in so many counties in the state of Wisconsin and with the state's blessing, and the state of Illinois has routes, also? We are only asking for a six-month trial, and each municipality can set the hours of operation and rules with no cost to the township or taxpayers, and Wisconsin law states there is no liability, either. Please do not let your fear of an ATV/UTV paralyze your thinking, but open your mind to different ideas.

So please reach out to your friends, neighbors and new friends and vote YES to an ATV route, and give us a chance, who knows, you may join us someday when you see how much fun it is.
