Letter to the editor: Use city's trash savings to bring back Clean Up days

To the editor:

According to the Monroe Times paper on Feb. 9, 2016: The city of Monroe is saving $5,000 monthly bypassing transfer station. If that is true, why can they not bring back Clean Up days in Monroe once a year or every other year? But as said, in the spring people are going to be working on their homes and there is no place to take the big items to get rid of it. What is a person to do?

It has been years since they had Clean Up days and many things could be sitting in basements and garages waiting for it to come back. Older people that don't have the money or resources to haul it somewhere. Maybe they could have Dumpsters or right into a truck and let people put the big items into it on the days they have yard waste. No trucking around the city and just the cost of another man to watch what can be put in the Dumpster or truck. Some of the $5,000 month savings should be able to go back into the community.
