From Rick Gleason
Director, Family Promise
of Green County
Monroe
To the editor:
As director of a local non-profit serving at-risk and homeless families and founder of a seasonal shelter program serving single homeless men, I want to thank the residents and The United Way of Green County, Wisconsin for their support.
In 2012 I served as a board member for Family Promise of Green County and learned first-hand, the level of support for this program, not only from the community but also the United Way of Green County, Wisconsin. In 2014, I assumed the role of director of Family Promise of Green County. Knowing the support this program received from the United Way on a local level was vital in my decision. The support and integrity of the United Way combined with the support of local churches, civic groups, businesses and a community of more than 700 volunteers have made Family Promise of Green County a growing and trusted organization.
In 2015, funding allocated to the Green County Homelessness Prevention Coalition, made possible through the United Way of Green County, enabled the startup of the Men's Resource Center of Green County, a community supported shelter program created to meet the needs of single homeless men locally.
In 2016, Family Promise of Green County and the Men's Resource Center of Green County provided shelter and homeless prevention services to a combined total of 132 people of which 66 (50 percent) were children. This number was up from 101 people served in the previous year. The problem is very real in our county and these services would not be available to struggling families and individuals without the financial support of The United Way of Green County, Wisconsin.
Through the financial support of local residents, businesses and organizations, the United Way of Green County is able to provide financial support to approximately 27 local non-profit organizations. These organizations, in turn, provide crucial services to Green County residents such as emergency housing, jobs, education, counseling, youth services and so much more. Thank you to the residents and businesses that support the United Way of Green County, Wisconsin. Together we are improving the quality of life for those who may face hard times through your support of local non-profits committed to serving the community of Green County, Wisconsin.
