To the editor:
Loaves and Fishes is the free community meal at the Grace Lutheran Church that is always the fourth Sunday of the month from 4 to 6 p.m. As I was walking to the church I stopped just before going through the doors and closed my eyes; the smells brought back memories of Sunday diners with grandma and grandpa. I could almost hear grandma say "come on in and wash up, it's time to eat."
Inside were different people who genuinely wanted to help with dishing up our plates of roasted chicken, mashed potatoes (with sour cream and cream cheese, we are in Wisconsin) fresh green beans, rolls, chocolate milk and of course dessert: There was chocolate or banana cake, or apple crisp pie and ice cream for those of us who can't say no - I did mention we are in Wisconsin. This outstanding meal was sponsored by Juda Zion/Oakley Union churches.
This weekend is our city-wide garage sales in Monroe. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 2810 Sixth St., Monroe, will be participating for the second year. Our goal this year is to earn enough money from the sale of many diverse items is to sponsor Loaves and Fishes for one month. Please come out this weekend and enjoy the wonderful items available for sale at the many garages sales located throughout our wonderful town.
