Letter to the editor: Republican attacks tiresome waste of money

To the editor:

The continued attacks on Hillary Clinton and now FBI Director James Comey by the Republicans are getting very tiresome and egregious. James Comey is a Republican's Republican. He served as counsel on the 1996 Republican Senate Whitewater Committee run by Sen. Al D'Amato which relentlessly and fiercely attacked the Clintons.

Right now the Republicans are saying his FBI decision on Hillary showed "a double standard." They say if he had investigated John Doe, the charges would have been different. However this is mistaken. For example, he has one of the finest sets of prosecutorial credentials in the country.

While working in the New York federal prosecutor's office, he took on the tough and high profile cases, from the Gambino crime family to Martha Stewart.

As deputy attorney general, he supervised all the nation's federal prosecutions - yes all. This means that his prosecutorial judgment had been refined in hundreds of major decision.

As for his three and one-half hours examination of Hillary Clinton, he warned her if she would misstate, she would be subject to harsh criminal punishment. The FBI gave her the third degree which she submitted to voluntarily.

It does not surprise me that the Republicans want to continue their attack on Hillary. But it does surprise me that they will not take the word of one of their own. I want to mention that one last credential James Comey has is his appointment by then President George W. Bush to deputy attorney general which is the second highest post in the Justice Department.

Okay Republicans, quit wasting our tax money and let's get on with a fair and square campaign.
