Letter to the editor: Raising county tax is better option

To the editor:

While many families, my own included, have received services from Pleasant View Nursing Home, I believe it is time for politicians at both the local and state level to see to it that our citizens are taken care of. Referendums are not designed to be used as a way to "balance budgets." When the current referendum "expires" in five years, it will have been a decade of property owners "filling-the-bucket" for the short-comings of our policy-makers. It is time to bring those ledger books off the back burner and make decisions that include contributions from all citizens in Green County rather than just taxing property owners. Raising the county tax one-half percent seems more reasonable to me than always asking property owners to carry the load and pass referendums. I am hopeful that our county board members may be in contact with Rep. Marklein to figure out a long-term solution to this rather than consult with him when the next referendum is "due."
