Spring Green, Candidate for 51st Assembly District

To the editor:

On Aug. 12, I encourage you to express your opinion at the polls. In this primary you have four great choices on the Republican ticket for the 51st Assembly Seat. This seat was formerly held by Howard Marklein who is now running for the State Senate seat.

Although we are all qualified, I feel I bring a deeper understanding of what you are looking for in your legislator. Having both managed and owned my own businesses for the past 40 years. I have also been involved with my community. I have served at the county and state level as a pork producer; was both treasurer and president of the River Valley School Board; I was also an EMT and firefighter when I lived in Lone Rock. Currently, I hold the positions of Town of Spring Green chair and supervisor for Sauk County.

Over the years, I have worked with businessmen, legislators at the local and state level and numerous agencies and organizations. I have a record of getting things done regardless of which party I am working with. Most notable of these was helping to get the funding and agency approvals needed to build the Big Hollow Drainage Ditch. With the River Valley area suffering millions of dollars in losses due to water damage to homes, businesses and cropland, a solution was needed to prevent a repeat in future years. Once completed, many breathed a sigh of relief. This project took a lot of determination and persistence; there were meetings too numerous to count with legislators, regulatory agencies and funding sources. We completed the project in November 2011; the project paid for itself June 2013 when we had similar conditions to 2008 - 9 to 11 inches of rain in a couple of days. Due to the ditch, four days later, the water had drained and no water made it to Spring Green. Most never realized how much rain we had gotten.

I challenge you to take part in the decisions for southwestern Wisconsin; to own what happens to you, your family and friends at the state level. Vote for the person who represents you, your values, and is not afraid to speak up in defense of your rights. Your job is to "hire" the right person for the job.

I, Dennis Polivka, feel I can fulfill the demands of this office by representing you, your values and your needs.
