I attended the hearing on AB-1 which is the Assembly's School Accountability Bill by Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt and they want this bill passed by the end of the month. You should pay attention because this was the only hearing for the Assembly bill the Republicans will write to privatize public schools in the State of Wisconsin. The Republicans plan calls for one test for public schools and the private schools can choose from three or four tests and if your public school would be privatized, it can never be a public school again. Private schools have their own set of rules such as hiring teachers not qualified to teach in a public school. If your school becomes a private school, you will not have an elected local school board to represent you. Also school meetings will be closed to the public according to lobbyist Scott Jensen for the American Federation For Children.
I'm thankful Rep. Sondy Pope is on the panel speaking up for public education but two elected officials Rep. Todd Novak and Sen. Howard Marklein had thousands of dollars spent on their elections by American Federation For Children so who will they represent, you or the out-of-state private schools?
Do a search for K12Inc. Diane Ravitch's blog who was appointed to office by Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton for the truth about one for-profit school.
