Brodhead

To the editor:

Brodhead, Wisconsin ... a nice little town. More churches than bars (Mom always said that was a positive indicator), many small businesses, healthy manufacturing companies, a vibrant downtown, wonderful schools, responsible government, and friendly neighborhoods.

Yet, I feel troubled. It's not so much that many today walk, drive, or stand in line with some sort of communication device in their hands oblivious to those around them. It's not that many younger folks view elders as odd, old fashioned, or just plain out of touch. It's not that a young person flipped me off on County F a few months ago as he passed me at twice the speed of sound. It's more than those petty things. It has everything to do with how we think about ourselves as human beings, as children of God.

Coming upon us shortly is a time of year many, including myself, have come to look forward to: Parents and their daughters coming to our doors to encourage us to buy Girl Scout Cookies. The excitement for the girls is incredible. They eagerly show you the products, explain how easy it is to order their cookies, and deliver them. I never met a cookie, or a Girl Scout, I didn't like. So what's my rub? The Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) promotes abortion rights among their members. The Girl Scout or even her parents may not know it, but sadly it is true.

Girl Scouts' curriculum for girls, sold and promoted by every local Girl Scout council, recommends pro-abortion role models/organizations such as Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, Amnesty International, Population Council, ACLU, National Organization For Women (NOW), Planned Parenthood, and others. GSUSA and local Girl Scout councils connect girls to resources promoting abortion rights and inappropriate sexual content via official Girl Scout social media accounts. GSUSA collects a royalty payment based upon their licensed trademark on every box of cookies produced. Consider that 200 million boxes of cookies are sold annually and the cookie licensing payments account for 5 to 7 percent of GSUSA's budget. This amounts to upwards of $5 million in funding for GSUSA every year.

I love these children and their parents and for that reason in clear conscious, I cannot support this group any longer. I do support CareNet ... they actually work to save babies' lives.
