This is about a blossom in Green County that is a newly-found invasive plant that has a robust growth pattern. It was brought to my attention that Hill Mustard, called Bunias orientalis for you scientific types, is growing in this area. There is a lot of it on County Highway N between County C and Highway 81. It is only found in Green County and no other place in the state. It is would be great to stop this invasive before it spreads statewide.
The Green County Highway Department is mowing it now that it is beginning to bloom. All private landowners should target this weed at this time to prevent the spread through the area. A photo can be found at the Department of Natural Resources website or from the county University of Wisconsin Extension.
Editor's Note: The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports Hill Mustard has also been found in Lafayette County.
