Letter to the editor: It's a small world

Savage, Minn.

To the editor:

I was born in Monroe, WI and lived there until 1944 when my family moved to nearby Brodhead. But I spent lots of time in Monroe at my grandparents' home (Albert and Mary Schwartz). I fondly remember all the Cheese Days events over the years. I may still have relatives living there that I don't know.

After high school, I moved to Oklahoma for 15 years, then back to Wisconsin (Edgerton, Janesville) for about 15 years. I then moved to Illinois for the next 28 years. My most recent move was to Savage, MN.

After 28 years in one city, it is a challenge to locate new doctors and dentists. One day I found myself in need of a dentist. I had seen the sign Shakopee Dental so decided to give it a try.

A tall pleasant man introduces himself - "I'm Dr. Jelinek, I'm from a little town in Wisconsin you've probably never heard of - MONROE." My first thought was, how does he know I'm from Monroe. Then I realized, He IS also from Monroe. How ironic that after all these years and living in several different states, that I would choose a dentist who was born and raised in the same small town as I was.

It is nice to reminisce about Cheese Days etc. I am blessed to have Dr. Jelinek as my dentist - he is a very kind and caring man. He even brought me some of that delicious Monroe Swiss cheese.

THIS REALLY IS A SMALL, SMALL WORLD.
