Letter to the editor: Green County blessed by two honors in dairy

To the editor:

Just some thoughts about the tremendous honor bestowed on our dairy industry by Bur Wall Holsteins and Emmi Roth. The Gigi cow not only made an outstanding record, she did it on twice-a-day milking at 9 years old which is more than double the average age of dairy cows. Emmi took over and expanded on John Marty's vision for the property.

What they both have in common is the will to make nature's most perfect food available in quantity and quality. They show attention to sometimes unglamorous details like sanitation. Those acts are measured by years, not days or weeks or when it is convenient. In German it is called alltag, sort of translated it means the daily grind. Food fads come and go but these folks show the world that dairy people in our neck of the woods go the extra mile. Another factor these two entities have in common is they need to make a profit to continue. It is not a hobby and all the ducks need to be in order to exist. These folks take the dairy grind to the next level.

We are blessed to have these two honors in 2016. A humble thank you to both Bur Wall and Emmi Roth.
