Recently, the Pentagon and Lockheed Martin announced that they reached an agreement to continue moving forward with full production of F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets - and at a lower cost. This is very good news for America's military amid its ongoing transformation to keep pace with the high-tech demands of modern day warfare. It is also very encouraging to see the reduction in the cost to produce these jets, a testament to the hard work of the design team in making this important investment as affordable as possible.
As a veteran, I fully understand the importance of air superiority, particularly when ground forces are deployed in combat-related operations. Having the advantage over our enemies in the air ensures more of our brave soldiers and Marines return home safely upon completion of their missions. This is exactly what the F-35 can accomplish. With its low observable stealth, the F-35 can easily fly through combat zones, neutralize enemy threats and return to its home base again without ever being detected while clearing the way for ground troops to move in. A number of other high-tech features enhance the reconnaissance and communications capabilities of this aircraft.
For as long as we continue to live in a very uncertain world with ongoing conflicts in places such as Egypt and Syria, America must remain committed to maintaining a strong military and defense arsenal. The continued production of the F-35 aircraft is critical to our nation's long-term security and the safety of our troops.
