Letter to the editor: Elections need serious decisions

To the editor:

"We need a change" is not a good reason to vote for someone when the change will make things worse, or when what the change will be is unknown. Such is the case in our unusual '16 presidential election. Also, the two candidates are about as far apart on their policies and the respect and concern they exemplify toward others as it is possible to be.

Voting for someone who is related by blood or marriage to many in the county, but who has very little relevant work experience is not a good plan either, when someone with many years of varied, outstanding, and relevant work experience is another choice. I am so happy Kate Findley had the background she did when she became the Lafayette County district attorney. Soon after she took office, the horrific triple murder and the arson case which killed three children and one unborn baby occurred. We can all be thankful our new DA was well prepared for what she needed to do, and did it well. One cannot hold that office in a competent manner with simply a few years in an attorney's office.

Education of our nation's people is one of the responsibilities of government. So why is Wisconsin's Republican-controlled government cutting funding of public education at all levels, forcing our many local school referenda? We cannot allow the University of Wisconsin to be robbed of its outstanding educational value and reputation. Even the UW-Extension system and Wisconsin Public Radio and TV are being attacked by the present state government. Voting for Assembly Candidate Jeff Wright will help correct that at every level. He is a strong advocate for public education and will work for the people.

Please vote intelligently.
