To the editor:
The people of Green County have impressed us ever since we moved to Monticello in 1999. We never knew how many deeply caring people live here. Just like the Swiss, who are expected to take care of those in need in their communities, the people of Green County have been extremely generous and caring in helping us recover from a terrible fire that destroyed our home on County N. So many groups and individuals have been generous in donations and kindnesses - Sugar River Quilters even made us a quilt! To the police, fire and ambulance people to our neighbors and "strangers" who take care of their community, we send our gratitude. May you all realize how special you are. We look forward to rebuilding our home in this special region. Many here are descended from people in Switzerland, where the tradition is that you should care for your neighbors in need. That tradition is being carried on in Green County.
