Letter to the editor: Burke will bring civility back

To the editor:

I am a newcomer to the political world and didn't participate during the civil times, but I grew up knowing about fear and hate and spent almost 30 years of my working life in the divide and conquer working world. That's what bothers me now about what has happened here in Wisconsin with our governor.

Last Sunday, I was in a long line stretching west of Wiota for their Fourth of July parade when Dick Cates, the 51st Assembly Democratic candidate, pulled up in his farm truck. His likely Republican candidate, Todd Novak, walked up to Dick's truck and they were smiling and joking, then shook hands and kidded each other with Todd suggesting Dick park somewhere down by South Wayne. What a refreshing change seeing two class act candidates that both parties can be proud of.

By comparison, I thought of the governor's race where we have an incumbent who won the 2010 election with a mean-spirited divide-and-conquer strategy and is continuing that in 2014. I am now a strong supporter of Mary Burke who is the candidate whose leadership could bring our state back together again with the civility we deserve.
