Letter to the editor: Blanchardville Woman's Club wants water study in Lafayette County

To the editor:

The Blanchardville Woman's Club is very concerned about water quality - both groundwater and surface water. We have started doing water quality monitoring with the Department of Natural Resources as Water Action Volunteers.

Green County is doing a groundwater mapping study because of the karst bedrock. They want to know where the most vulnerable areas are to contamination. Then developers and farmers can make special arrangements to avoid certain areas with certain land uses.

Not only is clean water essential for a healthy environment, it is essential for industry, agriculture, and every other business. The environment and people need clean water to sustain healthy lives and healthy businesses. Without clean water, there is no future for our children or our economy.

The Blanchardville Woman's Club is curious what Lafayette County is doing to protect water quality. As an active and environmentally conscious organization, we feel it is necessary to voice our collective opinion. The Blanchardville Woman's Club asks that the Lafayette County Board also produce a water quality study.
