Be Safe, Fireworks are illegal and dangerous.
The 4th of July is a grand celebration of our independence. A fun day in America celebrated in many ways. The most common way we celebrate is with FIREWORKS. All fireworks in Wisconsin and Monroe (city Code 9-4-16) are illegal. State Statue 167.10 defines and regulates fireworks. Basically, if the item is designed to fly into the air, explode or shoot out objects, it is illegal and often dangerous.
Last year (2016) in the US over 11,000 people were injured using fireworks including 11 deaths. Monroe Clinic ER has treated several injured persons over the years from fireworks caused injuries. The most common injuries are burns, and injuries to the hands and eyes. Don't let yourself be a victim.
The only permitted use of fireworks in Monroe is the Park and Rec program on the evening of the 4th. The city does not and has not issued permits for fireworks sales or use, other than the City's program at Twining Park.
Persons possessing or using illegal fireworks face fines of $175, in addition parents who allow the use of illegal fireworks by their children face a potential fine of $1,000 and face liability for any property damages.
Please be aware of these concerns. Don't be the one to cause an injury, property damage or death. Don't be the household party that ends with a MPD visit and a fine. Have a happy and SAFE 4th of July.
