Brodhead

To the editor:

Sidewalks and streets in Brodhead were notoriously bad before this winter, but they are now even worse, some much worse. Only about half of the streets have sidewalks. Most sidewalks are 75 to 100 years old or more. About half the sidewalks are so bad that they are not safe to walk on. Most of the streets in town are not engineered. They were originally dirt, then gravel was dumped on them and since, every several years, they are oiled and pea graveled. Year after year the worthless do nothing or do wrong mayors and city councils nickel and dime the taxpayers to death by oiling and pea graveling the streets that does nothing to enhance them. It is a brief temporary cosmetic treatment. I do not know or understand how mayors and city councils of this city can live with themselves for the way they have let the infrastructure this city to deteriorate so badly. They should be ashamed of themselves. They are worse than the U.S. Congress for kicking the can down the road.

The reality is that there is no excuse for the negligence of the infrastructure by the worthless do nothing or do wrong mayors and city councils of Brodhead. They continue to refuse to apply for certified local government status so that the city would qualify for federal block grants of money that would go to improving the city's infrastructure, including sidewalks, streets and storm sewers. Also, they never bothered to apply for federal stimulus grant money for improving the infrastructure when it was available. The worthless do nothing or do wrong mayors and city councils would rather see federal tax dollars of the residents of Brodhead go to improve the infrastructures of cities, towns and villages elsewhere than the infrastructure of Brodhead.
