Letter to the editor: A winter experience in free verse

To the editor:

Howling wind

Rattles the shutters;

White out snow;

Blizzard conditions.

Stealthy cat

Seeks shelter under

Low sagging

Evergreen branches

Scrawny wee

Bunny takes two hops ...

Rests ... and then

Two more weak jumps.

Hoping to

Attain protection

From those same

Evergreen branches?

Will he be

The stray cat's breakfast?

Was that cat stalking his mother,

When he crept

Towards the shrub last night?

Should have watched ...

It was late, sleep called.

And today?

A quick peek reveals

Snow filled tracks.

No clue what made them.

So we guess?

First victim was mom,

Who sheltered

In the berry batch

Ate branch ends

And to my surprise,

Nestled that

Baby in her "igloo."
