Kennison to run for Ward 6

From Darlene Kennison
Monroe
I am writing to declare my candidacy for the Ward 6 Alderman position on the Monroe City Council for the Spring 2011 election. I grew up in the city of Denver, Colo. and moved to Texas after graduation where I attended UT-Arlington. I fell in love with the city of Monroe when I vacationed here one summer and soon after moved to Green County, making it my home for the past 25 years. I am proud to tell others about the wonderful community in which I live and what being a resident here in Monroe means to me. I am married to Michael Kennison, originally from Monroe, and have two terrific stepchildren, both who attend UW-Madison and fill the entire family with pride on a continual basis. My work experience includes: employment at the City of Janesville Community Development Department, successful management of a fast-paced retail store in our community and currently running my own small business in Monroe. I am a logical thinker with a high level of commonsense, which I believe gives me the ability to view issues with a fresh perspective and fairly evaluate multiple viewpoints. My leadership skills enable me to speak for the people I would represent. I developed an interest in government through a Political Science class in college and continue to be fascinated by governmental decision-making. My desire is to use my interest and abilities for the good of the community. While I have tremendous respect for the councilors currently serving, I feel that we need to change the way things are being done within our local government and that the citizens need a fresh voice to represent them. As issues are presented and discussed, rest assured, the voices I will be representing will be those in my ward and residents of Monroe as a whole. The thought of having a true impact is what excites me about running for Alderman in Ward 6. With hard work and dedication to representing the people, I know I can affect a positive change for our community. I encourage interested citizens to reach out to me at DKennison4ward6@gmail.com to give me their ideas for improving Monroe. Please support me in the primary election on Feb. 15 by voting for me.
