Green Haven Family Advocates Inc.
On behalf of those of us at Green Haven Family Advocates, our thoughts and hearts are with the families of Annette Scott and Rollin E. Dunham II, in Orangeville. We agree with the community that this did not need to be the outcome. But tragically it is the truth. A tragedy like this brings up many questions. Many neighbors and friends of the victims have stated, "He was a ticking time bomb. Why wasn't there something done about it sooner?" Domestic abuse perpetrators maintain power and control through violence and fear. It is well known that perpetrators can portray themselves as someone that they are not, many times being referred to as Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde personality. As a community, we can take a stand against domestic violence by saying to victims, "We support you and will help you." As a community we pull together in a time of crisis. Let's not let this happen again. You may not think that you can make a difference, but there is a way that everyone can become involved to help stop domestic violence. We need to continue awareness and educate our communities ... and assist to protect and bring justice. Green Haven has witnessed an increase in severity and occurrences with domestic violence that has been reported. It is easy to look at the numbers and forget that each one is a person, a family, which is being affected by family violence. Domestic Violence takes not a victim, but instead a child's innocence, a mother, a father, a daughter or son, a sister or brother, a friend. Green Haven Family Advocates can help. If you or someone you know is in a domestic violent situation please call. We are available 24 hours a day 365 days a year at (608) 325-7711. We offer crisis intervention, legal advocacy, facilitation of support groups and safe living options. All of our services are free and confidential. To those who have passed: You have inspired us by your courage and strength, and you will never be forgotten.
