The Green County Genealogical Society has been organized since 2001. During this time, we have held educational and instructional programs on researching your ancestral families. GCGS also has held very successful cemetery walks at many cemeteries. We now are in the process of updating the cemetery listings from the 1970s, which not only are a valuable resource to a researcher but also to those who wish to pay their respects during the year. These publications list the name and how to find them in the cemetery. We have other publications for researchers as well.
Our concern is that we have been fortunate to collect many old newspapers, family genealogies and reference books all of which take up room.
As of now, these materials are stored in a storage unit or in members homes; making it difficult for researchers to use. Queries come from many states and abroad and we would like to be able to make all of this available to them.
We are asking your help to protect and preserve this valuable collection in hopes that someone would have a space that might accommodate it. Ideally, we would like to be open possibly one day a week.
GCGS does not have the resources to pay full rent, perhaps there would be something we could do in kind or for a small fee.
Please help us in providing better access to these research materials. Thank you.
