Just as the storm water was being cleaned out of the new Justice Center, the Green County Board suddenly discovers they are in arrears on Pleasant View Nursing Home. Not that they're going to have to cut police or fire service, or reduce county employment, reduce the budget at the clerk's office or any of the other departments with bureaucratic protection. No, they're going to have to throw old people on the street if the voters of Green County don't let them off the hook, shamelessly passing the buck.

So, I suggest instead the voters send the referendum down and tell their supervisor to cut something else, like benefits and salaries of county employees, or just eliminate their positions. Eliminate unnecessary councils and committees, and any perks or per diems for county supervisors, and reduce the size of the board. Approve new sentencing options for non-violent offenders, vehicle forfeiture for drunk drivers and reduce the prison budget. If authority is required from the state to take these actions, tell Rep. Brett Davis and Sen. Jon Erpenbach to get it.

Eliminate TIF funding until such a time that we can afford it again. Or raise revenue, and face the music. Quit trying to bully the senior citizens and their families, the people who built this county, and take responsibility for what you have done.
