As I write this, my family and I - like so many families in the New Glarus area - are busily preparing for this weekend's performances of the Wilhelm Tell play.
Although I grew up in Monroe - more years ago than I care to remember some days - it was not until my family and I moved back to southern Wisconsin four years ago that I actually saw a performance of the play. It was a gorgeous August morning and we bought tickets for the German performance. To be on the beautiful Tell grounds, eating a Swiss cheese sandwich, drinking a beer, and watching Schiller's play performed in its original language is pretty darn close to heaven, in my mind.
The weather this weekend is supposed to be gorgeous, so treat yourself, come to New Glarus and "do Tell" - see grassroots theater that has stood the test of time.
