Chamber takes on garage sales

Over the last 19 years, the City Wide Garage Sales in the city of Monroe have been a labor of love for Rita Farris. The Chamber of Commerce was pleased to work with her to offer the City Wide Garage Sales. As with all things, events transition and the responsibility is taken on by new hands, and this is no exception. The Chamber wants to thank Rita Farris for her tireless efforts over the years and hopes she can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that the Chamber of Commerce will be working with the Monroe Noon Optimists to hold the City Wide Garage Sales.

The event has been held a variety of times through the years, and this year we will be holding the garages sales on Friday, May 11, and Saturday, May 12. Mother's Day weekend always seems to be a nice time to get out, enjoy the spring air and start the bargain hunting. The Chamber of Commerce will assist the Noon Optimists as we had done in the past. The Noon Optimists will be contacting previous participants directly to coordinate this year's sales. The Chamber of Commerce will continue the role of accepting payments to be a part of the City Wide Garage Sale map and to be included in the advertising. The Monroe Chamber of Commerce is happy to be partnering with the Monroe Noon Optimists to organize the 2018 City Wide Garage Sales. We feel this partnership will be an opportunity for the City Wide Garage Sales to thrive with some new creative ideas and will also provide a platform for the Noon Optimists to share their mission with the community. If you have interest in participating in this year's sales, please contact Brandi Camron at camron0918@hotmail.com

If you are unfamiliar with the Monroe Noon Optimists, here is just a little insight to their mission and how they are helping our community. At Monroe Noon Optimists, we have an upbeat outlook and commitment to creating a more optimistic future for children. Communities in the United States, Canada, the nations of the Caribbean and other countries throughout the world have been touched by the powerful, positive force of optimist club members. From sponsoring youth athletic leagues, to weatherizing the homes of the elderly, to conducting oratorical contests for young people - optimist clubs are responding to the special needs of our local communities. Although we come from all walks of life, optimist club members share one common trait. We know that we can make a difference in the lives of others. We sponsor the Monroe Junior Optimists Club and many organizations have benefited from our fundraising and volunteering efforts, including the Santa Reception, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Jacob's SWAG Foundation, FAITH, Green Haven, Family Promise, Childhood Cancer Campaign, Young Eagle Fly In, Merit Center and many others.

The Chamber of Commerce is happy to have the association of the Monroe Noon Optimists, and we are looking forward to watching a new tradition unfold.
