From Michael Boyce
Monroe
My name is Michael Boyce. I'm running to be the mayor of Monroe. I am 47 years old, married, a father of two, and proudly serve as Ward 3 Alderperson. I'm running for mayor because I believe I possess the integrity, competence and reliability necessary to lead the City of Monroe.
I try to live by the Golden Rule. Its simplicity is so powerful. I am fair with all. I tell it like it is and appreciate the same from others. I tell people that they are appreciated and always compliment a job well done, but I'm not afraid to be critical when necessary - even with myself.
The only source of knowledge is experience. Negative experiences tend to teach the most. I had a lesson about seven years ago. I was stopped for speeding, the car was searched, and a pipe with marijuana residue was found. I'm unsure how it got there. I accept responsibility that it did. I was out with a group of people, some of whom I didn't know very well. I received a misdemeanor and a difficult but valuable lesson about personal responsibility that guides me everyday. I bring this up now so that when the campaign begins the focus is on the issues that confront the city.
In the last city budget process, I submitted many ideas; some were adopted, some were not. Eliminating the $125,000 contingent fund was adopted. If the debt and capital finance ideas had been adopted, the city could have lowered taxes, improved its balance sheet, and maintained service and employee levels. If elected, my main priority will be a budget that looks at every penny while balancing the needs of the community and city employees.
The experience I've gained in my 22-year career with the same company in the insurance industry relates well to being mayor. Priority one is customer satisfaction followed by dedication to employees. I am fortunate to serve businesses ranging from manufacturers, construction, non-profits and mom and pop shops. I have a great understanding of contracts, human resources, and finance.
I'm a simple man. I love my family, my creator, my country and my community. I work hard, respect others, and try my best every day to make a difference in the world. On April 3, when you're in the voting booth, I hope to have earned your support. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
