Blossoms & Barbs: Sept. 4, 2010

A big blossom to the editor for her stand on the online comments on the Times stories about a drug bust at a Monroe apartment. Hopefully she is correct in her supposition that most Monrovians (and others who read the paper) are not racists or bigots who rush to judge someone simply because of their last name or appearance. It was refreshing to read her defense of her paper, reporters and our legal system. - Barb Smith

A barb to the Green County Humane Society for advertising unaltered dogs for adoption at least twice in The Monroe Times in the last couple of months. Shouldn't they be altered before you advertise them? Isn't your purpose to end the senseless euthanizing of unwanted animals? The only way to do this is to promote spaying and neutering, and leading by example. I was also a little miffed by the article that was in the Times stating that when you find a stray animal that the Humane Society would appreciate if if you took care of the animal for the 7 day stray holding period and then find it a suitable home. Who is ensuring that these animals are up to date on their shots and spayed or neutered? It sounds to me like the people who are running the humane society are more interested in showing a profit that (sic) about the welfare of animals. - A concerned member
