I would like to give a huge thorny barb to the drivers of vehicles on Wisconsin 39 outside of New Glarus on Sunday, Oct. 9 who felt it not necessary to slow down at all while there was a large group of motorcyclists stopped along the road tending to an accident victim. This was a large, sweeping curve, very visible from a good distance away. We were very visible before entering the curve and drivers of vehicles still did not want to slow down until one from our group walked up the road and waved people to slow down. Until a sheriff's deputy car was placed along side the road with its lights flashing did motorists slow down. Please, please, please pay attention to what is up ahead of you on the road and please watch out for motorcyclists. And yes, our bikes were pulled off onto the shoulder with hazards flashing and we were standing in the ditch off of the road. -Anonymous

Barbs to Blackhawk Technical College for its decision in pulling part of the nursing program to the Janesville Campus. We as the taxpaying citizens of Green County need to provide public support opposing the decision that was made without any public/student input. When the Dean of Nursing was asked what other additional health or degree programs were going to be offered for the Monroe Campus, there was no reply. The Monroe BTC campus has available space for more classes - is there a plan to add more? Any nursing students from Green County should remain within the Monroe campus and Blackhawk Tech should honor that agreement. I'm personally outraged that my Green County and state taxpayer dollars are being used to force students to add an additional financial burden to those who cannot afford the expense.- Anonymous

Tons of blossoms to our terrific weather we have been having. It's so nice to just read something positive once in awhile. I am one who tries to look at positive sides to things. If more people would do that, it would make the place a better place to live. - Just Thankful

A blossom to all those Monroe City-Wide Garage Sale sellers who registered to be on the map. Without you, we would not be able to have a city-wide sale. It is your $10 registration fees that pay for the surrounding newspapers and radio advertising that informs people of our event. Thanks to all those shoppers who come out to add to the success of the Pre-Winter Sales. We appreciate all the businesses who were willing to distribute the map to so many people. Thanks for your assistance in getting $1,000 maps to interested shoppers. The two registered sellers whose names were drawn to win a $25 Monroe Money gift certificate in last weekend's sale are: A. Nonn/C.Gempler and C. Gertsch. The spring city-wide sale is scheduled for June 15 and 16. - Tom and Rita Farris and Chris Vincent

We would like to give many, many blossoms of appreciation to Mavis Rood and Marty's Village Sun, South Wayne. We held our first classmates' Homecoming Reunion for the classes of 40s, 50s and 60s with a great turnout on Oct. 8. The food was delicious and their hospitality and help couldn't have been better and very much appreciated. The Class of 1951 hosted this year and the Class of 1952 will host next year. - Sonja Wolff and Joyce Stauffer

A big barb to anyone displaying a Recall Walker sign. Folks, you reveal who you are plus much more. 1. I can't let my neighbor, friend, or enemy quit supporting my gravy train lifestyle. You don't want to start paying your fair share of your health insurance like the rest of us low-paid neighbors. Do you realize how many states wish they could get a governor who has guts to attempt what he's saving and being punished for? Where's the shame? As you drive along, you say to yourself another moocher. - A Burdened Taxpayer

A great big barb to the Monroe Athletic Department and the Booster Club, as well as anyone else who has failed to remember that this is the 25th anniversary of the first undefeated 13-0 Div. 2 WIAA state football championship team, the Monroe Cheesemakers. After speaking with several alumni from the 1986 team, they all figured that homecoming would honor them this year. Apparently not. For all of us and the huge community following that year, we are really disappointed. Everyone who was told passed the responsibility onto the other person. Well, you still fumbled the ball on this one. For a community that puts as much importance on athletics, you would surely have thought something could have taken place. Oh well, there is always the 30th. Start planning now and maybe you can come up with something. These young men only lost one game as juniors in four years of football and then brought home to a proud community and coaching staff the gold that no one else had ever done. We who remember are still proudest of all and will always remember. - A proud parent
