Blossoms & Barbs: Oct. 23, 2010

The Green County Historical Society would like to send a blossom to each of its two neighbors, Stop-N-Go and Monroe One Hour Cleaners for all of the support they have shown us during the last few years. Because of the economy, not-for-profits appreciate the help even more. We hope that we will remain good neighbors for many years to come. -Green County Historical Society

A blossom to all of the people who waited in line at Cheese Days for Optimist Cheese curds. We know the line was long and we tried to move people through as quickly as possible. Because of your generosity we are able to donate to and run programs for Green County that totally over $25,000 annually. Thank you for your support! - Monroe Optimist Clubs

A huge blossom to the sponsors, donors, vendors, volunteers/gateworkers, participants and spectators who helped make the 4th Annual Green County Fall National Truck and Tractor Pull successful once again. There is neither the space nor the words to appropriately thank each individual who played a part - big or small- in pulling this event together. The hours of preparation - both prior to and following the event are endless and we are so grateful for all the time and financial assistance provided by so many. Additional appreciation goes out to the Apparition Clubhouse and their members for allowing us to use their facility for the sponsor party and for helping to set up; to Barb Newcomer of Barb's Kitchen for the awesome potato salad; Dan at Piggly Wiggly for providing hot coffee to workers on a very chilly morning; Jim Rackow and Bell Signs for going 'above and beyond your sponsorship. If it weren't for the sponsors there wouldn't be a pull and if it wasn't for the pull, GCFN wouldn't be able to give back to community as we've been able to do the past four years. Thanks to everyone involved. -Green County Fall National event staff

A huge blossom to the Monroe Times once again. I submitted a barb last week to the Monroe Times about the fact that the Senior Center Brat Bash made front page news but a Brat Bash benefiting Monroe Clinic Hospice received NO publicity from the Monroe Times. You e-mailed me and asked if I would like to discuss this with you but you didn't publish the barb in the paper. Why is that? Is it because you do realize that the favoritism is extremely noticeable? Does the Monroe Times pick and choose what barbs get published? Was my barb not published because it was to the Monroe Times? I am VERY discussed with the Monroe Times and on the verge of not purchasing it anymore. Please explain to everyone why certain barbs get published and others that are directed at the Monroe Times don't. - Annoyed

A barb to the six largest bankers that were invited to appear on ABC national news. The foreclosure moratorium, which all 50 states requested Congress to have investigation on, up to now, they have been sitting on their hands. Took place when not only the customer didn't read the contract they signed, bankers were so anxious to make loans that the banker didn't even read the contract. All they wanted were the commissions. If the loan turned bad, sell it out of state. These are the questions the media should be asking the politicians running for office. Also, why did banks ever go to loans with no money down. They should have stayed with the rule that only 25 percent of your income should be spent on housing, which used to be practiced the old days when Glass-Steagal was in force. This housing crisis will go on for years unless Congress asks the right questions before the election so we know that the people we are putting in office will get this very serious problem straightened out. It would be interesting if The Monroe Times would interview a banker here in Monroe. I believe no institution is more important than our local banker. At least ways, that's the way my wife and I felt when we got started in farming and were successful in it. No one should criticize the farmer with your mouth full of food. Also, agricultural products are one of few things exported. - LaVern Isely

A barb to the Green County Board members who think property owners have bottom-less pockets. Visit www.co.green.wi.gov to voice your disapproval in the tax increase. It's not a popularity contest, we need all of our board members to "man-up" and follow thru with the tough decisions. Call them now, if you still want to owner your home next year. -Contact your county rep now
