Blossoms & Barbs: Oct. 2, 2010

I want to give a barb to the Monroe School District for what seems to me to be poor spending. I just drove through the parking lot at Northside school where the virtual school is located and I observed eleven cars with the virtual school logos parked behind the building. I checked the staff roster and noticed they only have nine teachers employed. Can someone explain to me why the virtual school needs eleven different vehicles? For Pete's sake the Monroe Police Department doesn't even have eleven squad cars ... and they're patrolling a city of 11,000 people! If I recall, it was about four years ago when citizens were complaining that the school had five cars ... now six more have been added? Does every teacher and support staff need their own personal school vehicle? Something seems amiss. What's next ... building a large garage to hide them all inside?! Is this where our referendum tax money went? - Zoom Zoom-Spend Spend

I want to extend a blossom to Dr. Nick Wellman, veterinarian for Argyle Veterinarian Clinic. Our beloved 9-year-old lab mix, Roscoe, became extremely sick in a matter of days. Dr. Nick came to our house on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and helped us with one of the most difficult decision a pet owner has to make. He compassionately and gently ended Roscoe's suffering, and reassured us throughout the process - Marcey Sink

I'd like to offer a huge blossom for this wonderful Cheese Days that was certainly had by myself and family. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves all 3 days!! Other than the little bit of rain that we had Sunday for the parade, all went extremely well!! Good food, great people!! You all should be very proud of all the work that goes into making Cheese Days the best there is. Congratulations to all for the hard work and sweat to make this a great time! Thank you thank you! - A Monrovian

Our square looked more festive for Cheese Days thanks to some people who went the extra mile to light all the trees. I want to extend a blossom to Paul Klinzing from Park and Recreation and his staff for the stringing all the lights, to Judy Henke and Nancy Maliszewski of the Green Door for ordering the extra lights and getting them here on time, and to Monroe Main Street for their donation. A cooperative effort and a job well done. - Thank you, Sharon Riese Design Committee Member

We would just like send out a huge blossom to Scherer Moving and Storage. Their willingness to help out on short notice on a Sunday afternoon made an impossible task possible. It is nice to know that there are wonderful people in this community willing to help out strangers. Thank you! - Brenda and Rob Davis
