A huge blossom to Cherie Hughes (Dilly Bean) and Barb Gelbach (das Baumhaus) >for all of the hard work and personal expense they put forth to make this year's ChiliFest such a success. And a big blossom to Amcore Bank and Big Radio >for their generous support, along with all of the other small businesses who contributed to this event. And thanks and blossoms to all of the other volunteers >who worked so hard to make this happen. And a big barb to those >who take these people for granted and never even flip them a simple thank you! You know who you are! - Grateful>

Kudos to David's blossom for the lawmakers who prevent felons from voting. Remember, committing a felony is no mistake ... it's a conscious decision. It is certainly no mistake to take a match and burn someone's building down. It's certainly no mistake to embezzle thousands of dollars from your employer. It's certainly no mistake to flee from a motor vehicle crash with another person. It's certainly no mistake to molest a child. Need I go on? And a barb to anyone >who would support a governor's pardon for those people convicted of making conscious decisions to commit such blatant, criminal acts. - I'm With David>

I would like to give a big blossom to the Blanchardville EMS, the Monroe EMS, the Monroe Clinic emergency room, Med Flight and the UW Hospital> for taking care of me when I was having a heart attack on Oct. 18. Everyone took good care of me, and without you things may have turned out differently. I would like to thank you again for all you did. - Kelli Jo Kaiser>

A blossom to Middle School Principal Bill Van Meer >for allowing the kids to have their own election and to also vote on their own "referendum." Here we go again with another reason why Monroe schools are so good - visionaries who think outside the box and realize that in a few short years these youth will be the ones electing our leaders.

A blossom to the droves of people> who turned out to vote and to let their voice be heard. And you know, all things considered, it doesn't matter how you voted, or who you voted for, or even whether your person won or not. What mattered is you exercised your right as a citizen of this great country and got out there and voted. That's the big picture.

A barb to the people >who put their comments in the paper about who can or who can't vote. If you do not know what the facts are, perhaps you should find out first. Also a barb to the people >who wrecked people's yard signs that stated whom they were backing in the election. It is their choice, doesn't make it right or wrong, it makes it another freedom we enjoy in this country.

A blossom to Larry and Justin Kranig at Monroe Sign Design >for their help and generous donation to the Family Farm Adventure rolling Ag Education trailer.

And a barb to the business >on the Square in Monroe who threw not one, but two cigarettes out onto the sidewalk/street area. I am proud as heck of our downtown area and that was just uncalled for. Put a can out in front of your store like some of the other stores have, and put your butts there. Otherwise, leave them in your store.

A blossom to all the candidates> who ran for their respective offices. Like them or not, they still threw their hat in the ring and gave it their best.

A blossom to Jim Ruf, Cory Dammen and Ryan Dammen at Ludlow Bar >for making Ludlow smoke-free, and for supporting our community and Farm Bureau the way they do. And also a blossom to all the regular patrons >at Ludlow for not giving Jim too much grief for doing away with the smoking. There are so many other things to give Jim grief for that are much more fun. - Jeff Ditzenberger, Monticello>

A blossom to Carol Wyss and her student assistants >who teach the tumbling program through the Parks and Recreation Department. We feel a "thank you" is not nearly enough when it comes to our children. It is comforting to know that we have a place that is safe and rewarding for our children to attend. We look forward to the next session. - Shawn, Kendra, Kaylea and Kade Paulson>

A blossom to WEKZ >for the public service of hosting the Nov. 3 debates. Along with this blossom, a very much-deserved barb should be awarded to WEKZ >for airing a very negative Brett Davis campaign ad against John Waelti just prior to the Davis/Waelti debate. - Glen A. Spring>

A huge blossom for all >that attended our benefit breakfast this past Sunday at the Monroe Masonic Lodge. A thanks for the members of the Moose Lodge who helped out. The proceeds will be used in restorations at our Green County Historical Museum. Thanks to everyone. - Dennis Dalton>

A barb to each and every person> that displayed large, crude anti-Obama signs just blocks away from the polling places on election day. This type of ugly campaigning was seen in pictures and videos across the United States for the past few weeks, but I never expected to see it in Monroe. John McCain himself did not agree with this kind of behavior, and he made that clear during his gracious concession speech when he firmly told his supporters to stop their jeering while he extended his congratulations to the President-elect Barack Obama. Instead of publicly (not to mention ignorantly) bashing one candidate, show which candidate you actually support. - Niamh O'Neill Culhane, Monroe>
