Blossoms & Barbs: Nov. 20, 2010

A truckload of blossoms to the Green County Fall Nationals and its organizers for their very generous donations and also to the Lions Club for contributing also. These great groups really do make a difference not only in people's lives, but in our community as well.

A blossom to the area football teams who advanced on in the final weeks of the season leading up to State. Your teamwork and good sportsmanship have been talked about in a lot of different places. Keep up the good work ....

A blossom to all veterans and the current men and women in the Armed Forces. These fine people are not fighters first ... they are peace-keepers first, fighters and defenders second. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

And it saddens me to write this blossom ... to a man who touched more lives then a person could ever imagine, who had a heart of gold and a soft voice, and a gentle touch. A man who thought and truly believed that everyone was special and important. A man I think we all knew and will all miss. Monsignor Campion, you were and always will be an inspiration to us all. God truly does take the good ones home. You will be missed, but I know your vision will live on through all of your Champions.

A blossom to all the drivers who slow down and give farmers time to get from point A to point B ... there seems to be more people starting to pay attention out there. Don't forget now, though to watch for the deer ... the four legged ones. - Jeff Ditzenberger

I heard about your barbs and blossoms section of the paper and wanted to send a huge blossom to the wonderful gentleman who changed my flat tire this morning. I was on my way to a very important meeting with city officials who were declaring November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and I didn't want to be late. Unfortunately, the nail I ran over had other ideas for me and my passengers. This man was extremely generous with his time and very adept with changing a tire on someone else's vehicle. Thank you for your kindness. It was very much appreciated. - Tammy Andries

A barb to all the people who say a kid doesn't get in trouble, or his playing time is determined, etc. because of his last name. I've never heard a coach or administrator base a decision on names. It's an asinine comment. - Get Real

Many blossoms to Derrik and Dannette Williams, Kris Hasse and the Green County sheriff's officer who assisted our daughter last night. You helped us out more than you can ever imagine - knowing our daughter was safe is invaluable. Also to those wonderful, unknown people who helped push her car out of the ditch. Thank you so much, I know you could not stick around for us to show up, so pat yourself on the back for a good deed done. We hope to repay you some way. Also the caring people who also stopped just to make sure she was OK. You all helped to calm a stressful situation and reminded us of the power of community we have in Monroe. Again blossoms to all. - Melissa and John DiTulio

A huge blossom to Gail and her daughter Patt who found my lost wedding ring in the Pick 'N Save parking lot last week. I prayed for God to help me find it or for someone who found it would return it to me. I searched for over a week, but I never gave up hope of finding it. I'm so thankful to God who answered my prayers and to Gail and Patt for returning it to me. With so much evil and bad news we see and hear around us, it's encouraging to know that there are good-hearted people like Gail and Patt. Thanks so very much. - Kathy Bohnert

A huge blossom to Scott Olson owner of Olson Logging for the huge lighted United States flag now flying proudly at his business on Wisconsin 59 near the Monroe airport. More businesses should fly the U.S. flag daily, not only on certain days and holidays. - National Guard Veteran

A huge blossom to Aldermen Boyce, LeFevre, Hanson and Kallembach who voted against the city's $13 million budget for 2011. Alderman Michael Boyce's past budgetary numbers and report show the annually raising taxes without regard to economic situations and uncontrolled spending. Citizens spoke in the last election both the state and the federal levels that uncontrolled spending need to be corrected before this nation is bankrupt and controlled by our biggest creditor - China. -Concerned Senior Citizen

Bunches of blossoms to Mr. Jack Perner, Dan Karlen, Dr. Randy Kruse, the New Glarus officer, Don's Towing and all the motorists who stopped to help the afternoon of Nov. 10, on County H near New Glarus, when my tire came off my truck. It was so nice to have so many people stop to offer assistance. Thanks Dan for the ride home with three dogs. We were lucky that no one was hurt. As Mr. Perner pointed out, it was a lovely fall day to stand along the road. Thank you everyone. - Boots, Rusty, Seppi, and Sue Hiltbrand

A blossom to the "Treat Lady" (you know who you are) for providing and buying a new refrigerator for the lifeguard room at the YMCA. It was quite apparent that the old broken down fridge was not going to be replaced. It is a blessing to have someone like you in our corner. Thanks again for all you do for our lifeguard staff. - The grateful Lifeguard staff of the Green County family YMCA.

A blossom to the Black Hawk School for their Veteran's Day program. Thanks Black Hawk.

A blossom to the Juda School for another success with the play "Guys and Dolls". They are like professionals. Thanks, Juda. - A grateful citizen
