A garden filled with blossoms to the generous people of this community. Your amazing financial support, time, effort and hard work made the annual Cheese Tasting Fundraiser on April 27 for the Monsignor Thomas F. Campion Charitable Fund the most successful event yet. While I couldn't possibly list everyone (and would be afraid of leaving people out, if I did), I must thank the Wisconsin Cheesemaker's Association, the Foreign Type Cheesemaker's Association, Old Smokey's and the dedicated board I am privileged to work with - John Baumann, Ron Buholzer, Tom Campion, Jeff Conway, Michael Doyle, Teresa Kanable, Ray Kneller, Shirley Knox, John Miller, Rich Schindler, Meghan Schramer and Jeff Wideman, along with guidance from Linda Gebhardt at the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin - who made this event so special again this year. To all of them, along with the cooks, servers, cheese movers and slicers, area businesses and individuals who contributed silent auction items and everyone who attended, bought raffle tickets, sent donations or helped in any way - I must say "Love and thanks." We miss you, T.C. - Ellen Marti

A big bunch of blossoms: On behalf of the Green County Humane Society, we would like to thank everyone who donated items for their recent garage and bake sale. A special thank you to Sherri Fiduccia, Jeremy and Jim and Monroe Auto for letting us use the display room for the sale. Lots of blossoms to Mike and Shelley Muranyi, Skip Brennan, Jim Doyle and Paul Barrett for giving us the tables to use for our sale; the workers who gave up so much of their time to help with the sale, Mary Hamilton, Cheryl Beck, Vickie Holland, Sandy Dierckman and Linda Schneeberger; The Monroe Times, WEKZ, and The Shopping News for helping us get out the word to everyone; and Dennis Dreikosen, Bob Beck, and Jim and Dan Bartholf for helping set up for the sale and take down. Without all of you, none of this would have been possible. The bake sale was a complete success and we would like to say a special to all you bakers out there, plus the bakers from Pleasant View who donated so many nice things. Thank you so much. The GCHS took in more than $2,300.00, all of which goes directly to the shelter for the care of the animals. Thanks to you all. - Geri Bartholf and Kathy Dreikosen

A barb to our city council for even thinking of building apartments on the parking lot north of Stop and Go. We have plenty already and many are for rent. With the extra concerts, balloons, carvings on the Square, revamping the old Lanz building, don't forget the historical museum next to the parking lot, and Cheese Days, where are all the people going to have close parking? The parking ramp won't be enough and we lost parking on the Square after that was redone. People living in the apartments around the Square use parking on the Square. Work on getting jobs in Monroe so people will stay or come to Monroe. All that (jobs) come are restaurants or fast foods. Can't raise a family on that. Think about keeping our money here instead of helping Madison out. I have lived here more than 50 years and in the last 20 years or more things have gone downhill. What a shame. Our new council members and Mayor Ross, get things going the right directions. - Anonymous

As we read through the paper we see all the news on the drug addictions, very sad. There is so much crime that goes with it. And as we read the court reports we see that judge and the D.A. just give a slap on the hand and not much punishment. I believe we need to come down hard on these people who are using and selling these addicting drugs in our community. Fifteen days in jail and probation is a small price to pay for selling drugs. No lesson will be learned there. A big barb to our justice department. - Anonymous

A fragrant blossom to those restaurant/bar owners who have taken the initiative to install handicapped toilets and grab bars in their washrooms. And a huge thorny barb to those businesses whose washrooms are still in the Stone Age. This isn't just a comfort issue - it is a safety issue that needs attention. I have decided I will no longer frequent these substandard establishments. A handicapped toilet can be purchased at Home Depot for $99, plus a wax sealing ring. Just because you haven't recently undergone a major renovation is no excuse. Where is the building inspector who is supposed to enforce A.D.A. laws? - Golden Girl

A barb to the law enforcement officer who chased a speeding car at 110 miles per hour recently. It crashed and luckily no one was killed or critically injured in that incident. Poor judgment on the part of the offending driver of the vehicle was not the best choice that was made, when he did not stop, but the judgment of a law officer to pursue a vehicle at speeds up to 120 miles per hour was also not in the best interest of public safety on the highway. He could have hit another innocent driver going to work, or even worse, a family driving home. High speed chases by any law enforcement officer is not the answer to safety on the highways. We have too many of these incidents in Green County and the state. Common sense and good judgment will save lives. High speed chases endanger lives and kill people. Is a speeding ticket with a $200 fine worth the risk of one more fatality in Green County caused by a high speed chase on our roads? - Jim Curran, Sr. Browntown

I would like to send a huge blossom to Pick N Save's store director Francisco Mendez. I recently had a problem at the store and Mr. Mendez went out of his way to correct the problem and make me feel comfortable. Thank you. - A loyal customer, Nicki Rear, Argyle
