Barbs to Brodhead High School for past seating arrangements at their graduations. Hopefully, this year will be better and then they can have blossoms. - Anonymous
A blossom to a fellow who rescued some wet travelers who almost crashed a stranger's wedding, by guiding us to the proper church. He got us "to the church on time." Thank you. - Grandma and guests
A blossom to the very generous Vince's Pizza of Monroe. Vince's donated a percentage of two months proceeds to the 2011 American Cancer Society's Relay For Life Of Green County. Their donation will greatly help the people touched by cancer. It is always a pleasure to work with Fabio and his staff, not to mention the wonderful food. - Dee Miller, Relay Committee
Blossoms to Monroe area citizens that contributed generously to the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Day held in Monroe Friday, May 20. A bouquet to all Monroe businesses that allowed us to distribute the poppies at their establishments. Special blossoms go to The Monroe Times for the outstanding coverage of this special event and Big Radio WEKZ for their continuing support of our organization's events that support veterans, their families and the troops serving our country. To our petals - the volunteer members - for devoting time to the distribution of the hand made red poppies. All monies received are designated to benefit veterans during the upcoming year for their direct needs and of veteran's families. In Wisconsin there are three veterans hospitals located in Madison, Milwaukee and Tomah. The Veterans Home at King and Union Grove are among the many recipients of the Poppy fund distributions. As veterans age, there is a rapid increase in the services needed. Your contributions also help the American Legion Auxiliary meet the needs of aiding and supporting the wounded warriors returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Without your generous giving, we could not meet the challenge to support veterans and their families. The combined efforts and support of all of Monroe area citizens and local businesses made our 2011 very successful. Our sincere thanks. - From the 2011 Poppy Day Committee: Joann Schwitz, Gladys Schild, and Frances Wells, Zilmer-Riley American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 84, Monroe
Blossoms (should be a big bouquet) to all the wonderful people of the community who were so gracious with their donations during the recent Postal Carriers Food Drive and to all the others who help us feed the hungry throughout the year. We cannot mention all the churches, many organizations, schools, parties, fundraisers, individuals and area food collections that have helped to supply our Food Pantry on 15th Avenue in Monroe. Whether through donations of non-perishable food, personal care items, monetary gifts or even fresh produce from carefully tended gardens, it is all greatly appreciated. We feel honored to have been given the opportunity to help so many in need during our more than 30 years of operation. None of it would be possible without the faithful community support and dedicated service of our many hard working volunteers. Thanks so much. God bless! - Green County Food Pantry, Inc. Board
A huge blossom to the wonderful ladies who run the free valet parking service at the Monroe Clinic. I used this wonderful service for the first time this week and I must confess I felt a bit odd doing so. However, these incredible ladies could not have more kind, sweet, caring, efficient, dedicated or welcoming. All of you are to be commended and we are all lucky and blessed to have you. For those of us who have issues parking and or walking, you are a wonderful solution and very sweet people. Thank you! - Grateful patient
A blossom to Chrysler, who this week paid back every last cent plus interest to the federal government. Following in the footsteps of GM, both companies have made remarkable comebacks. And we the people, took in more money from them than was paid out. Ironically, just as it was said it would happen. - Just an update
A full bouquet of blossoms to both the City of Monroe Street Department and especially Mr. Tschanz for the wonderful service of lawn waste drop off for city residents. Mr. Tschanz has a way of making what can be a nasty and dreaded job a sincere pleasure. His demeanor is always pleasant and always has a huge smile, kind word, up beat attitude, and willingness to help in anyway he can. Good for you Mr. Tschanz and thank you so very much! - Thankful city resident
A huge barb to the Badger Car Wash. Went to wash vehicle had $8. I have a larger vehicle so knew it would take at least $5 to wash it. Put the $5 in the changer and only got a $1 worth the quarters. Looked all over for a phone number to call, nothing. Looked in the phone book and looked on the Internet for a number to get a hold of them, nothing. Put my singles in and washed my car but didn't have enough to finish it so had to drive a soapy vehicle home and do it myself. I have been going down to the wash every day since this has happened and there is never anyone there to help you. So I called the Premier Car Wash (I went there first and the changer didn't take the money, so went to Badger) and left a message asking if they knew how to get a hold of anyone and for someone to call me back no one has, so a barb to them too! - Angered customer
A big barb to the Monroe Shopping News. Whenever you call you get transferred to an answer machine and no one ever returns your call. The paper sometimes comes on Tuesday and the other times on Wednesday. Get on the ball and return phone calls. I have called several time and have yet to get a phone call back. - S.L.
This is a huge barb to New Glarus Brewery. If you check out the want ads in this paper, you will see that they run a lot of ads for workers in the gift shop. I know of a lot of people who have applied for this job and other jobs in the warehouse. They seem not to like hiring local people for these jobs. They said on TV when introducing this new brewery how this new brewery will open many jobs for the town. If you ask a lot of the locals about them, you will see a lot of them feel that the big tax break and the townspeople paying for the sewer is unfair to the people of this town. Yea, we get the tourists that think they are just the greatest beermaker around. The people of the town feels a sword in our sides and added cost with no job offers for the local people. Tourists help the shopping for the stores and the local pays the bills for this beer! - New Glarus Brewery jobs, a joke
