The Joe Schwarzenberger family would like to extend a blossom and thank you to all of those involved with this year's Green County Breakfast of the Farm. >The success of this event would never have been possible if not for the endless hours of help from family, friends, neighbors, volunteers and local community organizations (FFA, Boy Scouts, 4-H). Of special note are the Green County Sheriff's and Highway departments, Juda Fire Department, Ahren's Acres, Tri-County Dairy, Mahlkuch Electric, Landmark Services Coop, Sloan Implement, Carter and Gruenewald, Jordan Implement, Freeport Honda Kawasaki and Monroe Power Sports and all of the sponsors of this annual event. A special thank you to the Green County Ag Chest committee and Evelyn Tschanz; you were all a great help and an amazing committee to work with. And to Dar Schwarzenberger, Ken Schindler and Craig Tourdot, we could have never done this without you. Thanks to all of you who attended and continued this great tradition of promoting the farm and dairy industry! - Joe and Laurie Schwarzenberger>
A blossom to The Monroe Times and Marian Viney>, Times correspondent, for your coverage of Albany's recent baccalaureate. Your commitment and support of community efforts shows! We appreciate your standards of excellence and dedication to working with others! Thank you again. - Pastor Pat Soddy, Albany United Methodist Church>
I'd like to give a blossom to The Monroe Times >on its online poll asking if Monroe needs a city administrator. It's good to poll the people on what the voters feel because, after all, we're expected to pay the bills. The results were 135 no votes, resulting in 72 percent, and 53 yes votes, resulting in 28 percent. Also, I agree with The Times on the comments made regarding Justice Annette Ziegler, as well as those of Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. It weakens the honor and respect we should have for the Supreme Court. My feelings are that there is too much out-of-state money when it comes to state offices. Big money seems to be dictating how a democracy is supposed to work in selecting our leaders. - LaVern F. Isely, Monroe>
A blossom to the customer >who was kind enough to help rescue two baby ducks out of our storm drain out in our garden center. With all the rain that had happened, the momma had the ducks out and the two babies got washed down the drain. We were out there and trying to get them out, and this customer was nice enough to help us get them out. We just wanted to thank him. - Monroe Wal-Mart store>
A barb against the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) >for not completing the Brodhead Wisconsin 11 bypass and the other two lanes from the bottom of Schwarzenberger hill east of Monroe over 20 years ago and not even having it on their project list for the next 20 years. Residents of Brodhead are sick and tired of seemingly waiting 5 to 10 minutes to get across Center Avenue (Wis. 11) or to pull into traffic, because the traffic is so heavy at times. Since Wis. 11 is a major east-west primary highway, there also is heavy truck traffic on it. The four lanes of Wis. 11 east of Monroe should be extended to east of Brodhead on the other side of the new subdivision, and then two lanes around to Wis. 104 north. There should be diamond interchanges for County S at Juda, Wis. 81 east/County G north, Center Avenue south, County T, and Wis. 11 east. Diamond interchanges are necessary to avoid the mistakes made with the U.S. 12 Whitewater Bypass and the Wis. 11 Janesville Bypass at U.S. 51. The present route through Brodhead should then be designated at Business Route Wis. 11. As an environmentalist, I'm not big on constructing new highways, but this is one project that is desperately needed. Also, a barb against State Rep. Brett Davis for not pushing DOT to put this project on its construction list. This project should be completed by 2012. - Dave Searles, Brodhead>
A very thorn-infested prickly barb to the person or persons who vandalized the Monroe High School Library >this week. You should be ashamed of yourselves. And although the school year is almost done, there are people who would have liked to use the library still.
A blossom to all the area high school and college graduates! >Good luck on your future endeavors!
A blossom to all the people who turned out for the Breakfast on the Farm. >It was amazing to see the number of people there showing their support for agriculture. And again, a huge blossom to all the volunteers and the host family.
A blossom to Green County Sheriff's Department staff officers Sgt. Rob Werren, Brian Dillon and Betsy Krantz >for their quick thinking and the proper use of their training to save a person's life. And with that, a blossom to anyone who learns and knows CPR.
A blossom to the Monticello middle schoolers >with their awesome message about not smoking. Way to go kids!
A blossom to Vicki Evenson >for her years of faithful service as county health manager. Good luck in your retirement and have lots of healthy fun!
A blossom to Monroe softball >for giving us a pretty spectacular season! Keep it up and good luck at state! - Jeff Ditzenberger, Monticello>
