Blossoms & Barbs: January 7, 2012

I have a barb for the Green County Humane Society. I got a call from someone telling me they had put my name down as a reference to adopt an animal. They gave them my cell number to call. They were told that the Humane Society tried to call me twice yesterday and I didn't answer my phone. They are liars. For one thing, there was never a missed call on my phone, nor was any message left from them. What is with it with this place? What on earth have they got to hide? Why do they lie about something so stupid? If they need more time, why can't they be honest with these people? Years ago, I had gotten two great companions from GCHS. It seems like they don't want to adopt these poor animals out. There are plenty of people who have animals they have to part with. If you want one, just start asking your friends and you can usually find them. We just got a new companion on Christmas and she was well taken care of and just as healthy as the ones at GCHS. I just feel sorry for the animals left behind there because they make it so difficult to adopt. Enough said. - Anonymous

A barb to those people who think Walker is the Man of the Hour with his issues of the collective bargaining issue, education, medical coverage help for the people, etc, etc. If you are so proud of Walker, and dislike the unions, at least have the guts to sign your name, not Anonymous. - A proud retired union worker, Gary Maddrell

This blossom is for my friend, Martha, and three Good Samaritans for their prompt response to my fall recently. I was walking on 13th Street between 23rd and 24th Avenues when I tripped on the sidewalk and landed with a "thud" on my right elbow and knee. Almost instantly, two gentlemen and one woman were at my side, asking if I were OK. I was a bit shaken, as I was looking at my knee to see how badly it was injured. Luckily, they had a first aid kit with them and were able to bandage it. They showed me where I tripped on an uneven surface area in the sidewalk. I called my friend, Martha, and she picked me up. My three "Good Samaritans" stayed with me until she arrived. Unfortunately, I did not get their names. It's nice to know that there are people - friends and strangers - who are not afraid to jump in and help others when they are needed. Thank you, Martha, and my three Good Samaritans, for taking the time to help someone in need recently - this time, that someone was me. I appreciated your help, and I will never forget it. May God richly bless all of you for your kindness. Happy New Year to all of you! - Anonymous
