A blossom to whoever is running the weather! Thinking about opening a window - Anonymous (sent Tuesday)
A huge blossom to the secret Santa who left the box of homemade bears and Vince's coupon on my porch at Christmas time. My residents sure enjoy them. Thank you! - Peggy Raab
A barb against the U.S. Postal Service. The cost of a first-class postage has gone up again. The people who run the U.S. Postal Service must be morons with the no common sense and intelligence. Raising the cost of first-class postage is not going resolve the budget deficit anymore than ending Saturday delivery will. Every time the U.S. Postal Service raises the price of first-class postage, more and more businesses and individuals find alternative means communicating. It is a never-ending spiral. They might just as well shoot themselves in the foot for all the good it does. Apparently, they never took a basic course in Economics 101 that you make money on volume and not high pricing. The first-class postage rate should be dropped back to 25 cents. I have a friend who is a postal carrier. He says ending Saturday delivery will not save money. It shifts the burden to the following Monday, which means move overtime and calling in temps in to help out, which will result in it costing as much or more. The burden is doubled after a Monday holiday. He says that the U.S. Postal Service needs to cut the deadweight in middle management that sits around all day bitching, drinking coffee, smoking, and not doing any work. Other ways to save money or increase revenue include ending the requirement that the U.S. Postal Service bank so much in their retirement fund when no other business or government agency is required to do so, raising rates for junk mailers who are basically receiving a subsidy by not having to pay higher rates, requiring businesses and government agencies to provide a postage paid envelope if they expect a reply (I can't afford and don't pay for responses), and providing banking services as some foreign postage services do. - Dave Searles
After listening Gov. Walker's speech, I have a barb for all the opponents of Gov. Walker, who have now succeeded in collecting more than 1 million signatures for mounting a recall election. They have plenty of outside of our state money - is it unionized money from union dues? - Anonymous
