Blossoms & Barbs: Jan. 30, 2010

A very huge barb to the Public Works and the City Council for not going through with Eighth and Ninth Street work. We lost 5 feet on our terrace during the 13th St. reconstruction. Why do some people get consideration for their wants and others don't? - Anonymous

A barb to Monroe Clinic for the new location of the clinic building entrance. Several times when I have arrived for my appointment the parking lot is full and I have to park across the street. Walking across 22nd Avenue can be very dangerous. Also, there is no lighting outside the entrance so when it is dark I fear for my safety. - A disappointed patient

Senator Feingold deserves a blossom for his hard work and because of his listening sessions and should be elected to another term. I'm proud of the fact that Senator Feingold took a picture with me when I was wearing a purple T-shirt that said," Tax Hedge Fund Dealers!" on it. Also, my wife and I had a picture taken with National Democratic Chairman Howard Dean wearing the same T-shirts when he was at the Minhas Brewery here in Monroe. Now, Senator Feingold comes to Monroe again for his 18th year to hold his Listening Session at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 2:45 p.m. Senator Feingold voted no to give Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke his second term and after watching PBS's Frontline program, "The Card Game" on Jan. 26, Senator Feingold made a wise choice. - La Vern and Linda Isely

A HUGE barb to the Times for only having basketball players and wrestlers in for athlete of the week! I would expect that the sports editor is aware that there's kids who play hockey for the Monroe Avalanche. There are articles every week reporting on the teams games from the weekend. What does it take for one of these amazing athletes to be nominated? I'm extremely disappointed that this paper sees fit to snub the kids that play hockey. - Hockey parent

A big barb to the Monroe Walmart for recently firing several long-time employees. These are people who have served you well through the years and now that our store is bigger and more like other Super Walmarts you are getting rid of the people that we have all been familiar with since Walmart first came to Monroe. I'm guessing you don't want to pay them what they are worth so you are letting them go in this type of economy. Just so you know, you aren't winning any new customers by doing this. I'm happy to shop at the local dollar stores, grocery stores and Shopko before going to Walmart. You are now my last resort, not only because you've let these people go, but because your customer service has failed in many areas, your prices went way up only a month after opening and you no longer have the variety I crave when I go shopping. This is what Walmart really is a BIG joke! - disgusted

I want to extend a huge blossom to the council for delaying the 8th/9th street project until next year. - Anonymous
