We're sending a big blossom to the person who anonymously paid the bill at Pizza Hut for the Juda staff members last Friday. It was an extremely kind gesture and we all felt greatly appreciated. - Juda staff members

I second the blossom to Green County Highway Department for its excellent highway clearing efforts. I work in Fitchburg, and have several colleagues at work who live in Green County. They all say the same thing. It's obvious when you cross from Green into Dane: The roads are snow packed and slick. Green County Highway, you guys are the best! - John

A big blossom to Mary Bohm, A.D.R.C secretary at Human Services, and the drivers who have been there when I needed someone to drive for me. They are so kind, considerate and helpful. We are so lucky to have these volunteers and the charge for the ride is so reasonable. I have had to call Mary numerous times for a driver. Keep up the good work. - Betty Cassidy

Another major barb against the Brodhead mayor and city council for continuing to ignore the serious problem of bad, unsafe sidewalks in Brodhead. Property owners in cities, towns with built-up areas along busy roads and villages have a duty and responsibility to maintain good, safe sidewalks. City mayors and councils, town chairs and boards with built-up areas along busy roads and village presidents and boards have a duty and responsibility to ensure that property owners maintain good, safe sidewalks. Brodhead mayors and city councils have ignored sidewalks in Brodhead for at least 60 years. A majority of Brodhead's sidewalks were constructed from 1900 through the 1930s. Then as the city expanded out, hardly any new sidewalks were constructed so that about one-third of the streets have no sidewalks. For 15 years, I have tried to get the bad, unsafe sidewalks in Brodhead replaced, but all I have received is excuses or I have been ignored. There is no acceptable excuse for the Brodhead mayor and city council to ignore bad, unsafe sidewalks. At least one-third of the sidewalks in Brodhead are in bad, unsafe shape and must be replaced this year. Another third are also not in good shape and must be replaced in two to three years. In addition, a sidewalk must be constructed along the east side of E. 9th Avenue/County T from 4th Street to the railroad tracks and a sidewalk on the west side from 4th Street to at least 14th Street and eventually to 23rd Street. - Dave Searles
