A barb against the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for not seriously considering extending the four lanes of Wisconsin 11 east of Monroe to the northeast side of Brodhead. This was supposed to have been completed 25 years ago. These four lanes should include diamond interchanges at County S, Wis. 81 East-County GG, Center Avenue, County T, and Wis. 11 east. The highway should continue as two lanes and curve around to Wis. 104. To consider anything less is a waste of lives, money and time. Cosmetic changes to the existing highway just do not cut it. As an environmentalist, I'm not big on taking more land for constructing new highways, but like a Chicagoland Beltway, extending the four lanes of Wis. 11 and completing a Brodhead bypass is absolutely necessary. - Dave Searles
I have a barb on the comment made about The Monroe Times not giving the Monroe High School dance team full recognition for their accomplishments on winning at regionals and going to state competition. The comment only talked about the hard-working women on the team and what they have to do to get where they are. I would like to remind you that there is also a young man on the dance team who is just as hardworking, committed and dedicated as the young ladies on the team but yet you failed to mention and acknowledge him in your comments. I agree dancing is a sport that deserves recognition just as much as all the other sports. But I am very disappointed you did not give him the same consideration as the girls on the team. He deserves better than that. - Bonnie
A huge blossom to the Monticello First Response and the New Glarus EMS for responding to our call for help on the night of Feb. 1 during the worst snowstorm in years. A huge blossom also to the Green County Highway Department for opening the highway to the Monroe Clinic Hospital and to the staff at the hospital that took good care of me. Thank you to all that helped and may God bless each and every one involved. - John and Shirley Kummer
A super big, multi-pronged barb to all those who voted for Governor Walker, and now are shocked! shocked! that he's actually trying to do what he said he would. - Jeff Kohl
We would like to give a bouquet of blossoms to Brian Matzke and his family for keeping the steps and sidewalks of the Zion United Methodist Church in Juda free of snow and ice. - Members of the congregation
Blossoms to the Green County legal community for its support of the New Glarus High School Mock Trial team. Over 25 years ago former Green County attorney Rod Kittelsen, when president of the State Bar, was instrumental in starting the State Bar's High School Mock Trial program through which high school students across the state learn the discipline of analyzing and presenting complex facts to a set of laws in a very realistic trial setting. The Green County Bar honors Rod's legacy with its annual financial support of our team. Furthermore, Judges Tom Vale and James Beer, and Court Commissioner Timothy Burns, as well as County Clerk Mike Doyle, have helped by allowing us use of the Justice Center Courtrooms for practice rounds, and Judge Vale and Mr. Burns even gave up a Sunday afternoon to give our students critical feedback in a real trial setting. Thank you for your help. - New Glarus Mock Trial Team (and coaches, Faun Phillipson, Rebecca Kuhl and Dan Gartzke)
We would just like to give a huge blossom to the City of Monroe plow drivers, especially Jeff Wiegel who made it possible for us to get to the hospital the morning of the big snow storm. We were scheduled for a C-Section, and needed to be there early in the morning. He made sure that not only our primary vehicle was cleared out, but also our two vehicles that were parked in the street were cleared out before he left so my husband didn't have to come back to dig them out later that day. It is great to know that we have such wonderful people working for the community. Your kindness was greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten! - Grateful Monroe residents
