A barb to people who don't pull over for fireman or EMS people that are going to calls. On Thursday I saw all these cars and nobody was pulling over, do you know what that means when emergency personnel are driving with their lights on? Do you ever look in your rear view mirror?. - Observant citizen
During the month of December a number of area restaurants sponsored United Way Days, donating 10 percent of their proceeds for the day to the United Way of Green County annual campaign. Money raised during this year's United Way campaign is being allocated to 27 area non-profit organizations providing vital programs for children, adults, families and the disabled in every Green County community. Bouquets of blossoms to Barrett's Brick Cafe, Monroe, Culvers, Monroe, Culvers, New Glarus, Pancho & Lefty's, Monroe, Papa Murphy's Pizza, Monroe, Suisse Haus Food & Spirits, Monroe, and Vince's Restaurant, Monroe. Thanks to the generosity of these wonderful local businesses, and to their customers who joined them for the United Way Days, over $1,900 was raised to help families and individuals throughout Green County. THANK YOU! - Susie Speer, Executive Director United Way of Green County, Inc. on behalf of the United Board of Directors and Staff
A blossom to the third-graders at Albrecht Elementary School in Brodhead. On Feb. 10, they celebrated the 100th day of school. They had a goal to collect 100 items to donate to the Green County Humane Society. The collected 130 items! Way to go third graders! - The third-grade teachers
I would like to thank "A Happy Cat Lover" for his/her kind words to me, Sherri Fiduccia and the GCHS regarding the Jan. 29 Spay/Neuter Day. We are elated that these events have been working out so well and are looking forward to many more in the future. I also want to send a blossom to everyone else who was involved in putting on such an event. In addition to the Dane County Humane Society SOS Team who performed the surgeries, we had many volunteers, not only from GCHS and EveryoneNeedsAHome (ENAH), but volunteers from the community who wanted to help with such an important event. Each and every person involved helped in a big way; many man hours are required for these events. I also want to thank the Monroe Veterinary Service (Dr. Amy Hagen) and Argyle Veterinary Service (Dr. Lisa Holcomb) who are part of the GCHS & ENAH Spay/Neuter Team. The Monroe Veterinary Service was most gracious in providing some extra supplies that we needed, and both vet clinics have been invaluable with providing their expertise and support in our quest to reduce companion animal overpopulation. - Margaret A.
