A blossom and barb to Monroe Chamber of Commerce. First a blossom for getting all the candidates together for the recent forum and giving the voters a chance to see them. A blossom for the questions asked. I know for a fact that many questions were submitted about policies and new possible tax issues. No hard questions were asked, so we the voters could see how the candidates stand on issues, like "the wheel tax" or why audits are not completed on time as businesses do. Why the soft questions? Don't we deserve hearing their positions on the issues? Next time that you ask the public to get involved and submit questions about their concerns, why not use them? If you are afraid they might get upset, then you and they are in the wrong positions. - Disgusted.
A blossom ... what a great and exciting game on Friday. Even in loss we are very proud of our girls basketball team. What a great bunch and well coached. The problem with many of us who could not be there or watch it on TV, we could not stand to listen to it on radio. - Ernie Beutel, local sports fan.
A barb to the Monroe Clinic. In a recent Monroe Times article "Sanders said Monroe Clinic and its hospital will maintain the same philosophy it started with in the 1930s, when it was built to serve, caring for those in need regardless of their ability to pay." After reviewing the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access Web site, it appears the Monroe Clinic sues people who do not have the ability to pay. The Monroe Clinic does not walk the walk. Look for yourself at, www.wcca.wicourts.gov. - Anonymous.
A barb to those who are against the Black Hawk referendum. Do you think your taxes will go down if our school closes and our kids have to go somewhere else? You won't get a free ride. We are property owners in Gratiot township. We don't have kids in the Black Hawk schools but want to see the schools continue to operate. - Gratiot township property owner.
A barb to the current mayor of Monroe for taking the credit for saving the City of Monroe money by refinancing the city debt. In speaking with an alderman, I learned that this was accomplished through the city's financial consultants, city treasurer and comptroller. Shame on you, Mr. Marsh, for taking the credit. Credit should be given where credit is due. We need better leadership. We need a leader with honesty and integrity. - A citizen for better leadership.
A blossom to the Obama health care plan. Hopefully this will allow the Monroe Police Department to receive proper testing on their hearing. They are either deaf or don't care to enforce the noise ordinance in regards to the so called music coming from these cars. Why is it everyone else can hear the "rolling thunder" blocks away from these cars but the police can't. I know this topic has been brought up by others in the past and I can't really blame the kids since it's never been enforced. Well, hopefully the new hearing tests will change that. - T. Wilkens
A blossom to all the candidates who are running for city and county positions. You've all had high words about what you're going to do if elected, just make sure you keep these promises once in office. A leader is not one who just shows to meetings or constantly tries to control the topic of conversation but rather one who knows when to listen, when to compromise and when knowing the good old ways aren't always the best ways. - T. Wilkens
