We would like to send a blossom to Mike Muranyi, Brian Jensen and Steven Kerr of the Monroe Country Club. Thank you for taking the time to give our middle school students the opportunity to learn the game of golf. We greatly appreciate how you brought in all the equipment and gave all students a chance to putt, chip, practice the full swing and learn about a wonderful lifetime activity. - The Monroe Middle School physical education department
A barb to the Green County Humane Society. The flyer that came in my Monroe Times last week, asking for donations, said that they receive no government funds. Really? You don't count the $50,000 you get from Green County, or the $15,000 you get from the City of Monroe? Should I contact my alderman and have him take that out of the city budget next year, since you don't acknowledge those funds? I can also contact the county board and have them remove their taxpayer funds as well. I am sure that both governmental agencies would appreciate a little wiggle room in their budgets, if you really believe that you don't get any taxpayer money. - A frustrated taxpayer
Green Cares Food Pantry would like to extend many extraordinary blossoms to the Alliant and Roundy's foundations. The Alliant Foundation provided a grant totaling $2,500 that allowed our pantry to replace some of our old freezers and refrigerators with Energy Star appliances. This allows the pantry to be greener, and keep our produce and freezer foods safe for the many families that need our services. The Roundy's Foundation provided Roundy's food products totaling $4,000 for the pantry, and an additional check for $500 to purchase perishable products. Green Cares Food Pantry, open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, serves all eligible Green County families who are in need of food. The grant from these two companies allows Green Cares to continue its mission to fight hunger in Green County. To the Alliant and Roundy's foundations - many thanks from all of us at the pantry, including those families who rely on the pantry for some of their food needs. Thank you for caring. - Karl and Jeannie Blumer,
volunteers for Green Cares Food Pantry
A barb to whoever decides the amount of jail time a criminal serves. People who gamble and hide money from the government could get more jail time than a man who knowingly sells tainted cheese that could cause severe illness or kill someone? Someone please explain this to me. - Anonymous
A gigantic blossom to the jazz workshop and ensemble groups at Monroe High School. You are a talented group of students - your hard work truly showed. This community is fortunate to have such a wonderful instrumental music department. Thanks so much for sharing your talents. - Impressed Community Member
A blossom to the staff at Pick N Save, especially Jesse and Jake. You went above and beyond in helping us out when our battery died in your parking lot. We really appreciated your help. Thanks! - Paula
Blossoms out to Sharon Wedig at Sugar River Bank, Rick at Ekum Abstract and Attorney Greg Knoke for their recent help with my home loan. They were all wonderful and very helpful. - Tracey White
A blossom to Monroe Clinic for building the new hospital and continuing to invest in new medical technology. Being LEED certified, I had hoped to see geothermal, solar and wind technology used in the new building but saw no application of these renewable and sustainable resources during a tour. At a cost of $83 million, I was also expecting to see a larger building and all departments under one roof. The new hospital in Janesville was built for $80 million and is almost twice the size in square feet and much easier to navigate. - Anonymous
Pleasant View Nursing Home would like to give a bouquet of blossoms to Dan Henkel and the Monroe High School Concert Band who came and played beautiful music for our residents. The residents and staff were very impressed with the student musicians' abilities as well as their wonderful demeanors. Thank you again for an excellent afternoon of entertainment. - Pleasant View Nursing Home residents and staff
